I thoroughly enjoyed IA1, but IA2 has been kind of "meh" to me.
I understand completely how long development like this can take, but it seems like they release too many tiny updates for people to care. Like nobody wants to download several hundred MB for like 2 new scenes for one character every couple months. Combining and staggering their small updates into larger ones would be way better.
As for the game itself, it's fine but I can't say I'm a fan of the use of Koikatsu. Everything looks way too stiff and "generic" given the fact I've seen tons of people use Koikatsu for making renders/animations and have played the Koikatsu itself a fair bit. It doesn't help that "generic" feeling given that every icon in the game uses the Twitter emoji icons.
IA2 just feels very clunky at times. Some stat requirements are way too high to acquire without grinding that stat or money for stuff to raise it, and the same with character relationship leveling. Some characters clearly have way more focus than others (I swear Alex has gotten way more focus than anyone other than like Mom). Aside from Hailey's and Tracy's being pretty good, the character designs are just bland at best, to "wtf" like with the gym teacher.
I can appreciate the addition of some side characters like the shy manga club girl and the pizza delivery girl, but the main game's scope is just way too cluttered and a hassle. There's way too much available to do each day but you only get to do like 2 things on any given day, then it's time to sleep and start a new day, and if the event you're after falls on a certain day/time and you miss it, you gotta wait several ingame days to try again. There's also just waaaayyyy too much boring filler just to continue the story arcs of some characters. I get it, not everything is lewd, enjoy the slice of life too, but having to spend several days watching some TV shows to continue talking to the pizza girl (and for you to reach the abrupt end of her unfinished arc with zero payoff for doing any of this) is just lame.
It also just feels pretty undercooked for how long its been in development (since late 2020) and again I attribute that to the scope and focus. They keep adding new random things to do to increase stats (there are way too many stats in this game

) which takes away from the focus on the characters. Some places only have like 2 actions to do while some have like 10+ to do. Some characters are the same way, you can only invite some characters to hang out and do things while others have like nothing to do. I would've figured that the use of Koikatsu would speed up development by making the art a lot easier, but it doesn't even seem like it was worth it at this point, you could've just used traditional art in the 4-5 years this game's been slow-cooking. The UI is also very ugly and too big, though I understand the size thing being it's RenPy and there's mobile ports available every update.
Also I say all this as someone who's been playing this game since 2021 and is a big fan of IA1, I wish IA2 was as good as the first but it really isn't, at least right now. IA2 likely has as much literal content now as IA1 had at completion, but most of it is filler or stat increase activities.
