I think this is a fun little thing that I remember from Extra Credits from Youtube.

They explained that generally most people playing games could be categorized in 4 types:

Achievers-Also known as "Diamonds" (♦) , these are players who prefer to gain "points", levels, equipment and other concrete measurements of succeeding in a game. They will go to great lengths to achieve rewards that are merely cosmetic.

Explorers- dubbed "Spades" (♠) for their tendency to dig around, are players who prefer discovering areas, and immerse themselves in the game world. They are often annoyed by time-restricted missions as that does not allow them to traverse at their own pace. They enjoy finding glitches or a hidden easter eggs.

Socializers-"Hearts". (♥) They gain the most enjoyment from a game by interacting with other players, and sometimes, computer-controlled characters with personality. The game is merely a tool they use to meet others in-game or outside of it. Some socializers enjoy helping others for the sake of altruism

Killers- well-suited as "Clubs" (), are, more than other player types, motivated by powergaming and eclipsing others. They want to achieve first rank on the high score board or beat another speedrunner's time record.

I voted Socializer but tbqh as usual I think I don't fit any specific mold, Socializer was just the closest. I more just fuck around and try to make people laugh when I play multiplayer games - albeit without being necessarily bad, I still try to be good - so socializer fit best tbqh. I'm more like a clown and that's why my dumbass always plays characters like Teemo and Murky.

I don't think I can see myself as anything else than an "Achiever" considering I enjoy the primo "number go up" game that is RuneScape. I never went for true completionist but I've always been a fan of the quests.

100% explorer! I just beat Outer Wilds + The DLC recently and it really fucking scratched my player driven exploration itch. Any other explorers in this thread owe it to themselves to play that game, if you haven't already. Maybe like, 20% achiever - i do enjoy seeing number go up. I do also really enjoy games with characters I can talk to and get to know, but its not a primary driver for me

Explorer, for sure.

I especially enjoy slower paced games, which is why I lament the death of turn based combat in favor of mass-appeal profits.

I suppose it’s time that I speak. I’m personally very achiever focused. I used to play games just to get the story and to say I finished a game. Then when I went back and replayed those game I hunted the achievements to get that 100%.

Ratchet and Clank series
Infamous series
Kirby series
God of war series

about an 80-20 split between achiever and explorer
always thinking about doing 100% plays of games...

Explorer, but more of a tourist as it were lol. I like to explore games and their worlds but my level of exploration is directly tied to my interest in the game and narrative. Side quests are often left by the wayside.

But then there's games like New Vegas, where I do as much as humanly possible.

i've been a Killer lately, and i blame pizza tower for that

that game drives me to p-rank all the levels, i did 101% and all clothes for peppino last year

and i'm slowly clawing my way up with the noise since that update launched earlier this month, and man is it reminding me why i love pizza tower
