First order of business for the new subforum:

What are some of the free open-source software you like to use regularly?

Just about all of my daily stuff is open source: Firefox for browsing, Thunderbird for emails, Blender and Krita for art stuff, the usual run of the mill you'd expect.
But for some of the more "out-there" choices:

Zim-Wiki, which I use for general note keeping as well as organizing commission info. It stores notes as plaintext on my OneDrive, so if I ever need to reference my notes outside of Zim, I can open it in any text editor. (btw highly recommend getting an app like this, definitely watch this video for suggestions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRpHIa-2XCE)

HexChat, an IRC client that I've been using lately to get a feel for IRC chats. I've found myself to be a regular user on the Furnet server, though like any IRC chat other than LibraChat, it's fairly quiet.

Kodi, which runs as an OS under Libre-Elec on a Raspberry Pi, which acts as my media center where I watch all of my downloaded media.
I was going to suggest Foobar2000 as my offline music player, but that isn't open source unfortunately. It is free though, so if that's of interest to anyone, go for it!

most of the software i use is FOSS, naturally because i do use linux as my only operating system :p

i also use firefox, purely due to the fact that google fuuuuucking sucks, like god. mozilla isn't the greatest either, but it's not the non-profit side that's bad. as for my art, i draw using inkscape! all my art is done in it because working with vectors means i don't make "mistakes", and i moreso mold my art, basically. without that i'd lose my sanity and i wouldn't be drawing at all lmao. another thing i use to a great extent is syncthing, which i use to keep my files in so many places that the only thing that'd make me lose all my data is for the world's worst EMP to occur that somehow wipes solid-state storage. on that note, i also use keepass-XC as my password manager, since having an offline password database makes me feel safer, even if bitwarden has been proven to be reliable and secure.

i guess the only "out there" stuff i use is... games, basically! i've played and modded a lot for sonic robo blast 2, a very fun sonic fan-game that is indeed open source! it has to be because it's based on the doom engine (specifically doom legacy)! it's a miracle that they managed to make a very fun platforming game on the doom engine, and i've been playing it for many many years at this point (fun fact, it's nearly as old as i am). another game that's... technically open source is super mario bros. x2! i've been slowly making an episode for it (think what a SMW romhack would be), and it's been fun learning lua for both of these games! ...even if i can't use decimal math in SRB2, again due to the fact it's based off the doom engine.

oh and i guess i also use jellyfin as my media server! it sure as hell beats plex. aaaand rockbox is open source so i'm counting that, i use it on my ipod 5th gen :3c

SRB2! my friend group recently discovered srb2 kart and we've been playing for the past few weeks, it's awesome

My picks for foss would probably be nvim+nvim-wiki for coding and notes, i3 for a tiling window manager, and mpd+ncmpcpp for a music player. I love nvim, but most of my other choices are just to fit a terminal-based workflow and not necessarily because they're my favorite overall.

that being said, some really great terminal tools are the Nnn file explorer and zellij, a tmux alternative

what I'd like to find is a good terminal-y version of xc-keepass

i use foss everywhere i can.
of course i have the usual, firefox, krita, libreoffice, all that jazz
but lately i've been exploring godot, with what little development knowledge i have, it's good fun
the actual kicker for me though, trilium notes, which i've been using for a good few months to handle writing
why trilium over obsidian... im not paying anyone to sync my notes, really. i'd much rather self-host (when i have the ability to)

I really like using Flameshot for capturing screenshots.
it has similar functionality to ShareX on windows, in that it offers a fullscreen, window or custom region capture.
it's definitely not as fleshed out as something like ShareX, which also offers recording and automatic uploading to sites like Imgur. on the flip side, it is relatively light weight, can can be bound to the same keys as ShareX so switching over wasn't as much of a shock.

I've been using Linux for a few years now. As such, most of my day to day programs (Firefox, Libreoffice, Sgnal, Keepass etc) are open source, along with my actual OS (Debian) and desktop (KDE Plasma). Unfortunately I still use discord, but it's hard to switch when everyone I know is there.

I've been playing a bit of SuperTuxKart recently, which actually isn't half bad. I wish there were more FOSS titles that I'd actually go out of my way to play, but I understand the extreme effort in developing such a thing.
