► Show Spoiler :
Lessa was awoken in the morning and was dressed in a habit, some kind of dull robe, by Eilers.
Lessa was getting a little frustrated with how much she seemed to hover over her. But at least she seemed enthusiastic to help.
Lessa asked to break her fast but was told there was another step first. They were brought into a room with several benches and some kind of icon at the edge of the room.
A ritual of sorts proceeded: there was a bout of singing in a foreign tongue, then some lecture Lessa mostly tuned out as she focused on her empty gut, everyone rose and dropped in unison muttering short incantations.
It all seemed very pleasant and Lessa was sure to make a note to study their magics in more depth later. At the moment though she thought only of food and pleading for their aid in saving her mother!
They went to another room and a simple breakfast of porridge was served in wide bowls. Along with warm milk to drink, also served in wide bowls.
After finishing her meal Lessa decided to begin to make her case.
"So Eilers, I was hoping you all could lend me a hand in my quest?"
Eilers smirked "Your quest? Is that what you were doing before?"
"Yes you see I seek an enigmatic wizard known as the Great Wolfhound, who guards a Magic Seed. I need this seed to raise my mother from her magical slumber or another wizard..."
Lessa continued rambling about her mission, she did not notice herself talking louder and drawing the eyes and ears of the room.
"... will send his goons, and the village is doomed! Starnose is protecting her right now. She's a very powerful Witch as well. She has this amazing magic scepter, the brass tack she loaned to me... oh wait just a moment..."
Lessa excitedly began to summon The Brass Tack, which she continues to forget along her journey. A flash of light and it appeared! Everyone seemed very impressed by her rod.
"... also small subject change: do you have any ergot? Im likely to need an abortion soon."

Lessa realized she had made a misstep somewhere along the way.
After a commotion the congregation had tied her to a post with a rough platform below.
Lessa had of course heard of such punishments. Grisly tales where offenders are tied to a post and lashed with bullwhips!
Lessa did not look forward to this, but wished the group would return soon. The anticipation almost seemed worse to her.

The congregation had returned, they carried no whip. They carried a lit lantern in the light of day, and a pitcher.
Lessa understood what this meant for her, and began to cry. Terror gripped her heart tight.
Eilers came over with a sorrowful expression and doused Lessa with oil from the pitcher.
"Lessa, why did you have to be so fucking stupid? We could have been such good friends..."
Eilers stepped back and away, the rest of the crowd gathered closer. The eldest of them struck the pyre to light and an awful heat grew beneath Lessa...

The flames spread quickly under Lessa. The heat penetrated throughout her entirety almost instantly. The air was sucked away from her and replaced with the noxious fumes of the timber and her own burning coat...
She took a long shuddering inhale, her last, for now. The fire bit deeper into her and she yelped and sobbed. She looked up at the crowd hoping for mercy. Stoic faces and smirks stared back.
She looked at the eldest and screamed an angry scream. She screamed as loud as she could. She screamed at the top of her lungs.
A discomfort and unease broke forth in the crowd when she screamed Louder.
A scream louder than sound that shattered the windows and shook the stones of the building behind them. Lessa's Stentorian shout grew in strength and many of the crowd began to flee.
Her banshee cry increased in power still! Splitting the ears of all in the clearing! They scattered about, howling their own cries of pain as they did.
The building shook and began to fall in itself. Her foes' ears we're bust. But Lessa was still burning...
She lacked the strength to cry any further, her vision faded and numbness blessedly was grabbing ahold of her. Without thought she croaked out a miserable last word...

► Show Spoiler :
Lessa opened her eyes once again in Starnose's hut.
She decided to lie there for a couple hours, envying the dead.
After a time she hatched a minor change of plans: to acquire a firkin of ale and crawl in a hole and await Bellinor's arrival in drunken stupor.
In Lessa's reckoning this way the end result will be the same but she will at least save herself pain and embarrassment along the way.

► Show Spoiler :
Lessa left Starnose's hut setting out on her new quest, to drink heavily and shirk guilt and responsibility.
"Hello!" A young cheerful voice called out. "Do you live there?"
Lessa noticed a peasant girl on a swing, in the glade next to Starnose's hut. Lessa ran her question through her head again.
"Yes, I think in the truest sense. I do *live* there." Lessa replied. Lessa was pretty pleased with her wordplay, byt kept a flat expression to look thoughtful and composed.
This was all lost on the peasant girl, who continued with "well i just ask because Ive seen you come out, but never go back in."
"Ah, yes. Its a deal with my quest, you see..." Lessa began again explaining to a stranger her perilous quest. The peasant girl, half listening, let her continue about to the part where a tree fell on her.
"Wait, wait, wait... men will give you stuff if you suck on their penis?" Asked the peasant girl, incredulous.
"Hm? Oh yeah, I guess. However! You have to make sure a deal is made first, because they'll happily let you do it for free. It's all in this book I snuck away from..." Lessa sighed, and changed the subject.
"Say, does your family make ale?"

► Show Spoiler :
Lessa and the peasant girl made their way to the peasant girl's house, chatting idly all the while:
"What's your name by the by?" Asked Lessa, "Theophne" replied the peasant girl. "How do you spell that?" "I don’t know" "Can you read?" "No, can you?" "Yes, I like to read. I haven't seen anything new to read in awhile though. Do your parents have any books?" "No, they can't read either."
There was a brief moment of awkward silence before the peasant girl picked up the conversation again. "Can you suck on penises for a living?" "Uh, yes, its called being a whore, but listen..." "I think I'll be a whore when i grow up." "...that's generally frowned upon." "Why?" "Uh, I don't know but listen, I really shouldn't have told you all of that stuff I just needed to get that off of my chest..." "That's okay, Ive heard worse!" "...you have?" "Maybe? I did not follow everything you were saying"
Another lull passed over them. Lessa was debating whether she was annoyed or relieved the peasant girl's mind wandered during her ranting. The peasant girl started up the conversation yet again "Are you really a witch?" "Yes! Well, an apprentice one" "Can you read the future?" "Yeah." "Will you read mine?" "No." "Why?" "There's two schools of thought on that: either your stuck with the future and you're damned to it, or you're not and the reading was useless. Waste of time, so all witches only tell vague predictions." "Oh..." "Can you fly?" "No." "Can you make something fly?" "Yeah" "Can you fly on top of that?" "Yes, but I won't." "Whyn't?" "I'm scared of falling."
They reached the house and Lessa was waiting for the peasant girl to go inside to ask to be invited in. But the girl remained standing asking questions "Have you ever hurt someone with magic stuff?" "Only on accident..." "Never on purpose?" "Maybe some monstrous spiders. My mother melted a man once though." "Yeah! I heard about that!" "You have?" "Yeah its the kind of thing people talk about." "...Can you ask if I can come inside?" "Oh! Sure"
The peasant girl went inside for a moment and then waved Lessa inside

► Show Spoiler :
Lessa entered into the peasant girl's home, and after a few awkward introductions sat down at the table with her family and began to eat some sort of stew cooked from their cauldron.
The family had only one cup that was filled from the family's stock of ale whenever empty and passed around the table upon request. It was a well made thing, and cast from lead, enhancing the flavor of the admittedly terrible booze.
The family consisted of the peasant girl's mother and father, her two older brothers and the eldest brother'swife who appeared either bloated or pregnant. The father was a pig, but kept neat. The eldest brother's wife was a newt and the rest were squirrels.
Lessa appreciated how their fluffy tails whipped about during their conversation. Lessa could feel she had thrown off the natural cadence of conversation but as the alcohol took effect and she felt the heat rise to her cheeks she did not mind so much.
Lessa noticed the second-born son kept stealing glances and shyly looking away when Lessa turned to meet it. While processing this and how she felt about it she realized she was beginning to tune out the peasant girl's rambling about her other siblings.
The peasant girl's other siblings were dead anyways but Lessa had enough social understanding to know she should be at least pretending to pay attention. Lessa was feeling dizzy, and her thoughts and attention kept drifting to the second-born boy. 'He seems just about my age, I wonder if he likes me? I bet he gives his eyes to all the village girls...' "Lecher..." Lessa accidentally said out loud to him, surprising him and rousing a chuckle from the others still seated. The boy blushed and looked embarrassed. Or maybe he was flush from drink as well.
"I want to lie down..." Lessa said standing up. "You're not listening!" The peasant girl shouted at Lessa as she finished the backwash in the cup. Lessa gagged and found what seemed to be the peasant girl's bed.
'She's a good friend' Lessa thought to herself 'what was her name? Tuffy? Something like this.' Lessa looked at the roof's shoddy thatching. She imagined there must be a great silent storm outside because it looked as though it kept moving to and fro.

The peasant girl woke Lessa from her dozing as she entered into the bed with her. They had a brief discussion where the peasant girl insisted on sleeping on the side of the bed towards the wall. Lessa did not argue, hardly seeing how it mattered.
The peasant girl kept whispering inconsequential questions to Lessa to keep the conversation going, not concealing her excitement to have a friend sleep over. Lessa was not having fun anymore and pretended to fall asleep, before actually falling asleep.
Lessa then woke up sometime later with a drastic need to piss. Everyone else seemed asleep. Lessa stepped outside and began relieving herself a short walk from the main path. As she did so, she realized this is likely the reason she slept on the outside portion of the bed.
Lessa pulled the skirt of her smock back down and rounded the corner of the house and was taken by surprise to see the second-born son leaning against the outside wall before the door.
"Having trouble sleeping?" He asked her. "Um, yes." Lessa hesitantly replied. She was nervous but there was no sense of fear in her. This was exciting!
He approached closer, he smelt of sweat and ale hing on his breath. Lessa did not find this wholly unpleasant. He came close to her and pulled her in for a kiss. Lessa pulled closer into his embrace as he did so.
As it goes they undressed in the midst of this, every moment raising Lessa's excitement. She felt butterflies in her stomach. "I want to do this for you" she said urging him with a gentle pull to sit on the grass.
Lessa examined his penis, a fair size! Impressive but not terrifying. 'This is how its supposed to be!' ,she thought to herself 'just fun and exciting and painless and I hope he likes me but I guess he must like me and Im not feeling so well again but I don't think he's noticed! This is good I can enjoy myself'
"Are you crying?" He asked her seemingly out of nowhere. "What? No." Lessa replied "Yes, you are. Are you okay?" Lessa felt tickles on her cheeks and noticed his penis was vecoming flaccid. "...please I need this" Lessa said to him quiveringly as she placed his half hard cockhead into her mouth.
Lessa gagged, and her entire binge and supper came up, first into her sinuses and then with coughing gagging hurls onto the both of them. An tense moment was shared between them where no words were spoken.
"Im so sorry" Lessa croaked out. No words were spoken between them in the next half hour as he stumbled over to some pen, fetching a pail of water, and the two cleaned themselves of the filth.
"Please don't tell anyone about this?" Lessa asked of him, "Don't worry I won't". Lessa slipped back into the house, and into bed with the peasant girl. A small groan met to greet her from her bedmate. 'I hope he still likes me' Lessa thought to herself, falling asleep.

Lessa woke in the morning with a terrible headache and her mouth tasting as though a creature had crawled inside, shit and died.
To make her morning worse, her new friend the peasant girl was already trying to start conversation.
Lessa damned the light of day before trying to tune in on the questions.
"Are you going to help us work, Lessa?" The peasant girl asked. "I'm unsure... is it hard?" "Yeah, usually! Plus we gotta move fast, a storm is coming in"
Lessa sat up some and rubbed her eyes. "Can you teach me how to be a witch Lessa?" The peasant girl asked.
"It seems easier than you teaching me to be a peasant... wait I thought you wanted to be a whore?"
There was a stern look from the mother of the house but neither noticed it.
The peasant girl smiled and rolled her eyes. "Buh! I'll be a whore and then I'll be a witch, later on ill be a master sword-smith, master sword-fighter (I'll do that at the same time as the smithing), messenger, cartographer, forester, and retire into light adventuring. Yup nothing I won't do in this long long life of mine!"
Lessa felt a twang of annoyed guilt. She decided in her heart at this moment without thought to continue her quest.
"I can't help you today... Tuffy..." Lessa did forget the peasant girl's name but she smiled thinking it was a nickname so it does not matter. "I need to continue my quest."
The peasant girl seemed down at not spending more time with Lessa, but understanding. "Well... tell me if you fight any of that wizard's lackeys I guess!"
"Goons, Bellinor has goons not lackeys. Twisted merciless monsters forged by a dark alchemy from cattle-hearts." Lessa replied with dramatic flair.
The peasant girl tried to get Lessa to stay and wait the storm out but Lessa said she had far to go and shouldn't have wasted time anyways.
Then the peasant girl asked if Lessa could just teleport. Lessa scoffed, she could only teleport certain things to herself!
The peasant girl posed a confusing question: "Can you summon your wand thing to yourself to where the wand thing is?"
"...No? What are you asking me? What? You're making no sense." Lessa replied
"Does magic have to make sense?" The peasant girl asked. Lessa shrugged and decided to give it a go, just to prove that this nonsense.

Lessa ventured further from the graveyard, trying not to look at her charred corpse on her way back into the woods.
Thunder rolled overhead and the rain began tickling her ears and nose.
She shivered from the wet and wished she had herself a cloak to keep her dry. She had a cloak at home but did not think to bring it.
She considered going back to Starnose and telling her that has failed multiple times and that this was too much for her.
She thought of other candidates, possible adventurers to take up this quest. It was a short list, Lessa did not know many people.
Still Lessa was figuring that Starnose had vastly overestimated her magical abilities... or otherwise her confidence in wielding them.
Lightning struck and illuminated the forest further on, and Lessa saw that the world had answered her wish for a cloak in the warped way it sometimes does.
Ahead for that brief moment she thought she saw a rider on a pale horse in a black cloak.
But it was no cloak, it was the limp wings of a goon!
Lessa spied through the rain the goon turn his mount towards her, but still traveling at the same pace.
She found a large root and curled up behind it. Closed her eyes and focused on breathing steadily.
Then, the lightning raced above her and the thunder cracked so loudly she could not help but squeek in fear.
Lessa heard hoofbeats coming more quickly towards her and knew she would have to fight the goon...

Lessa stepped out into the open, trembling from fear and cold.
She raised the Brass Tack with shaking hands and pointed it at her foe.
Lessa cast an arcane blast towards the goon but it went wide, its arc joining the lightning in the sky.
The light for a moment seemed to stun Lessa, and the goon and its mount.
The goon was thrown from the saddle by the spooked horse-beast, but came to its feet quickly.
Its wings furled out once again and brandished in the foe's four arms was its terrible lance.
The lance found its place buried in Lessa's abdomen and she was hoisted by the goon's strength into the air.
It eyed her curiously as she yelled and wailed in agony. Lessa gripped the haft of the lance out of desperation.
The lesser arms tore away Lessa's smock and touched and prodded at her raw wound. Then its probuscis unwound and wormed its way to the cut next to the shaft.
It sucked at her bloodied flesh with a disgusting slurping noise,l. He held the shaft with his upper arms and grabbed at her with his lower arms.
Lessa grew cold and numb. Her vision faded and her strength failed...
Dead again.
She raised the Brass Tack with shaking hands and pointed it at her foe.

Lessa opened her eyes inside of Starnose's hut once again.
She stood there watching the lights float around the room, the rain pour outside, and took a moment to collect herself.
After some time she was ready to face the goon again.
She summoned herself to the Brass Tack that lied in the mud near her skewered cadaver.
The corpse was pinned to the ground in the lance but her body had slid down to the lance head. She turned her away from herself and looked for tracks leading away...

Lessa trudged through the rain with as fast a pace as she could muster. The rain seemed to lighten thankfully, it seemed the worst of the storm had passed.
The tracks led back the way she had come, it felt like lost progress even if it were necessary.
Lessa's could feel her resolve grow with every step back to her foe. She furrowed her brow and grit her teeth and imagined herself looking fearsome to the goon. She smiled imagining it noticing her and flinching in fear.
Past a thicket Lessa noticed a figure. But it was not the goon, but Eilers! She looked haggard and worse for wear.
Eilers and Lessa locked eyes from across the way, and Eilers turned pale with fear. She took several steps backwards before slipping in the mud and fell to the ground.
"Foul apparition! Let me be! Seek the Light and haunt me no further!" Eilers cried at Lessa with an odd cadence.
"Eilers you didnt listen to me I explained all of this to you already! Im not a ghost you self absorbed harlot!"
Eilers fell to the ground and began to chant again in that foreign tongue. Lessa continued shouting at Eilers trying to explain., to no avail, for Eilers was deaf now from Lessa's scream.
A bolt of lightning came down and struck the Brass Tack and Lessa holding it like a lightning rod. Killing Lessa before her body hit the ground.
This was either an act of an angry god, or because the universe is chaos.

Lessa opened her eyes again in Starnose's hut, quite pissed off.
"Oh that absolute BITCH"
She teleported to the Brass Tack and found herself in the rain again, getting quite sick of the smell of her own blood.
The wand was amidst embers and was struck by lightning but was quite cool yet, a common property of such items.
Lessa called out to Eilers "Did you just blast me?! Did you just fucking blast me?! I'll blast you bitch! Don't fucking test me! I'm trying to save your ass you- you fucking uh- "
Lessa made an angered groan failing to come up with an insult she liked well enough for the situation and pushed on in her quest.
Eilers, while not understanding any of that rant, had pieced together the young witch's ability to spite death.
She grew curious what else Lessa may be capable of...

Lessa pressed on as quickly as she could, knowing she had little time to lose lest the goon's tracks be washed away in the rain.
Through the mist Lessa spotted it again, the marks on its wings staring back at her like the eyes of some giant beast.
"Finish your work coward!" Lessa called out to the goon, surprising herself. Words are easy though, and Lessa felt her stomach drop as he turned his mount around to run her down again!
Lessa spread her stance, and grasped the wand with both hands. She focused on her breathing and her timing. Not too soon and too late, she cast the arcane blast.
The blast is so bright it is blinding but she did not dare close her eyes lest her shot go wide. Through the flash and the crackle in the air she heard the horse-beast neigh and a body hit the ground.
When her eyes adjusted she saw the horse-beast running off, and the goon lying motionless face down into the mud.
With her foe defeated Lessa debated to herself about catching up with the horse-beast to hasten her journey, but it ran into a clearing and was caught in the clutches of the Giant Owl. Putting the thought out of Lessa's mind.
Besides Lessa wasn't too sure if having a beast around would work out for her anyways, given her luck...

Lessa's heart felt gripped with guilt for a moment looking at the goon.
It was but a monster but it's form was nearly akin to folk... 'A tragedy and an affront to nature to take such a delicate creature and twist it into this.' Lessa thought to herself.
'I'm going to poke it with a stick' Lessa then thought to herself.
When Lessa was within arm's reach of her for it turned over, and slashed her stomach open!
"Oh what the fuck!" Lessa screamed out, her rage returning. She stamped on the goon's head, hearing cracks.
She grabbed the Brass Tack and shoved it into the goon's neck and proceeded to grab his head and continue to bash it into the ground.
The goon in turn reached into Lessa's innards, but Lessa was too indignant to stop. "I beat you! You lie down and die already! That's how this works!"
After a moment of stillness, after her fury wore off and the goon was sssurely dead, Lessa reexamined herself. She tried brushing off the mud from her intestines and putting them back into herself but they would not stay put.
"I wish I'd learned healing magics... Or surgery... Or to sew..." Lessa was losing blood and steam. "It's alright I guess I'll just die."
While sitting around waiting to die, Lessa saw Eilers approach. "Oh fantastic, what do you want to do to me now?" Lessa said to Eilers while melodramatically waving around her bloodied hands.
Eilers made a motion to indicate that she could not hear Lessa, and pulled a face in annoyance that Lessa had forgotten that she had deafened her in the first place.
Lessa felt bad for half a heartbeat before remembering that she only screamed because she was immolated.
"Fuck you-" Lessa muttered to herself. She grabbed some of the goon's dark blood and wrote a message stop of its chitinous armour: "Wait Here"
With that Lessa attempted to stand, the headrush causing her to finally faint.

Okay should be caught up now! Next up fanarts~ and then regular upd8z
► Show Spoiler :
Lessa opened her eyes and drew breath once again inside of Starnose's hut. For the first time since she had started her adventure though, she did not find herself in a foul mood inside there.
She watched the dancing lights and listened to the rain outside. She found herself smiling with a strange feeling overcoming her.
Pride, she determined. She was proud of herself she had figured. She was proud that for the first time by her reckoning she had actually managed to do something advantageous to herself, her quest, and her mother.
"I should kill more things." She said aloud to herself. "I'm going to brag about this that peasant girl, Tuffy"

► Show Spoiler :
Lessa walked over to the peasant girl's house from Starnose's hut and knocked on the door. The newt woman whom Lessa had not spoken to yesterday at all opened the door.
The newt rolled her eyes and called into the house "It's the hermit's daughter again", Lessa wanted to argue that her mother should be referred to as a Witch but the peasant girl had appeared in front of her before she had gotten to it.
"Lessa!" The peasant girl bobbed in excitement and then she had remembered the situation "Oh, I'm sorry I guess this means that you have died again, yeah?"
"Hm? Oh yeah, yes: thrice actually!" Lessa replied, still in good spirits, "I was stabbed with a big spear by a Goon! But I had to rush back to stop it so it wouldn't kill my mother. But I saw Eilers again but she couldn't hear but I didn't know that and she killed me with magic! So then I saw the Goon again and I killed it!! And then the giant owl ate his horse"
"Wow sounds like you've had a full day! Well, I've kept busy too. Wait if you killed the Goon what killed you the third time?" The peasant girl asked.
"Well the Goon again, but what is important is that I did kill it in the end." Lessa answered. Lessa paused for a moment making sure she said everything she wanted to before asking "So... What did you keep busy with?"
The peasant girl went to her bed and from under the covers she grabbed a fistful of white fur smelling of smoke. "I saw this mouse-beast so I killed it with a rock. Then I took a knife and scooped out its innards and dried it all out on the hearth! Do you like it? It's for you!"
"Tuffy, this is one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me!" Lessa said with full sincerity "It's a rat-beast but that's not so important... "
"It reminded me of you, so I thought you'd like it-" the peasant girl chimed.
"I love it, I really do." A thought went through Lessa's mind, "Hey I can actually use this to make a magic talisman!"
The peasant girl screamed in excitement annoying everyone else but these two. "Really, really? What's it going to do?"
"It would let you hear through the dead rat's ears! I'm going to give it to Eilers so we can talk." Lessa explained.
The peasant girl blinked in confusion. "I don't understand."
"Well, she can't hear so if I cast a spell on this pelt-" Lessa started.
"No no, why would you do anything for that so-and-so? She killed you with a magic..." The peasant girl said.
"Well, Tuffy... I think if I can get her alone and on my terms I can find a common footing with her! And then we can combine our efforts and save my mother and stop Bellinor! I know she's a good person I just have to give her a chance to prove it..."
The peasant girl pulled a face, expecting to hear an update sooner than later.

► Show Spoiler :
Lessa returned to Starnose's hut, making a note that more time seemed to have passed than she originally thought! It was the afternoon and not middle morning!
Gutting seemed to be a terribly slow way to die... Thankfully she was able to miss most of the pain, she reckoned, but unfortunately with her rage of traversal she doesn't have much time to lose!
Entering inside the hut she consulted the mystic's notes: now a mystic is not to tell anyone their secret ways of harnessing the magic of the earth (except of course their sole apprentice). However Starnose was quite old, entering into her second century, and her memory had grown increasingly dodgy.
So after sifting through Starnose's series of keys, ciphers, reminders, notes and a memory of seeing this done once before: Lessa was able to figure the spell to make the pelt a talisman for Eilers.
Rat-beast pelt in hand, Lessa summoned herself to the Brass Tack. The sky was dark as were the woods, but in the near distance a campfire burned.
She followed the light and saw Eilers eyes dial in on her, before her posture relaxed. Eilers looked exhausted and was dressed strangely. She was wearing bits of the chitinous hide of the goon like it were maille! Her clothes stained black and shorn to be much shorter and fitting her form.
A quizzical look formed on Eilers face when she saw the dead rat-beast pelt. This expression blossomed into a completely shocked and confused expression as Lessa yoked Eilers with the macabre enchanted necklace!
Eilers made several noises: first of confusion and then of elation! Lessa smiled and found a seat on a log near the fire.
“This is your witchery afoot right?” Eilers asked to Lessa, who shyly batted at the air and looked away. “Technically it's mysticism…”
A moment passed between the two. Discomfort weighed on Lessa from the building awkwardness. “What's the difference?” Eilers asked cutting the tension some.
“Witchcraft drawing its powers from the influence…” Lessa paused her by-heart explanation early and asked of Eilers “Shouldn't you know?” The question was answered with a scoff.
“The specifics of your ways are unknown to me. Anathema to my superiors as they are, you see?” Eilers replied.
Lessa did not know the word anathema.
Lessa asked “So what are you… what were you doing there? I figured that you were in a witch coven” Eilers burst out in laughter at this.
“You stupid little girl! Haha! Lord deliver me from this mad child!” Eilers stopped herself from laughing slowly as Lessa tried to keep her composure. “No no no… We are here to spread the good word and benevolence of Providence. But honestly mostly we gardened and made soap”
Lessa believing that she understood now said “Oh! You're a cult! And you sacrificed me for displeasing your Providence God after upsetting some ritual? Seems harsh but if you're worried about retribution, I suppose…”
“Its not a cult Lessa…” said an irked Eilers scowling at Lessa. She paused before seemingly deciding to not go on about this. “Whatever Lessa its not important. Not to you at least, your soul is forfeit as it is! Now. Okay, yes! You're looking for an enchanted acorn because your mother is asleep? And there is a powerful wizard thst guards it?”
“Yes! The magic seed it is called actually. I presume it's an acorn but it might just be a little glowing thing. I don't know.” said Lessa
“Then you got raped, we killed you, you destroyed our convent, came back and here we are!” said Eilers
“Well i was raped and killed a few times before that” said Lessa
“Well i mean *raped* right?” Said Eilers doing scare quotes in the air. “Killed I believe if someone gets the jump on you or is protected by Providence. But you just let it happen didn't you?~” Eilers purred
“No! You don't understand to cast out magic requires a lot of focus-” started Lessa
“Slut~” interrupted Eilers
“-and and and a lot- Nn -keeping emotions especially panic in check!” stammered Lessa growing flustered.
“Lessa you don't need to make excuses with me it's alright! If you carry with you certain desires Im well trained in assisting with relief from that burden~”
“I don't know what you're saying…” Lessa said deflated.
“We could bathe together again, I mean~” Eilers cooed. Lessa stared at the fire trying to ignore her.
“Hm… Reminiscing Lessa?”
Lessa turned her head so Eilers wouldn't see her tears.
"Hey, maybe tomorrow, yes? We will need our rest. Big day tomorrow, together right?"
Eilers and Lessa then fell asleep next to the warmth of the fire. 'Its a start' Lessa thought to herself.

PART 50
► Show Spoiler :
Lessa had awoken alone next to the ashes of the fire. This gave her a start and she checked to see if her possessions were still there. It was, the Brass Tack that is, though she remembered she could have just taken it back if Eilers had made off with it.
So Lessa looked for signs of a struggle she may have slept through but found none. 'Maybe we should have taken turns on watch for each other...' Lessa poked around for a time before sitting at the campfire and gnawing on a bit of green wood.
After a time Eilers returned with a sheepish smile. "Sorry Lessa Id hoped to return before you woke but I wandered farther than I had guessed!" Eilers was carrying the black sword of the Goon and a sack made of a familiar blue cloth. 'Maybe she had those yesterday and I failed to notice in the dark' Lessa thought to herself.
She was of course aware that Eilers had refitted the Goon's chitinous hide into a maille but hadn't thought she would repurpose her old smock. At first unsure how she felt she decided it was pretty clever, actually! Though hopefully a property that wouldn't be called on purposefully...
"That's quite alright Eilers. Though I was curious what became of you..." Lessa squeaked "I was getting nervous!" Eilers looked guilty for moment and said "Yes, sorry... I was foraging. I woke up hungry enough to eat this thing around my neck! I had to go so far because there's surprisingly little to gain from these woods!"
"Ohh I see! Yes the earth itself here is foul! There are patches where it's nicer but this land is an accursed one!" Lessa paused before changing back to the topic of food "Did you find any poisonous mushrooms? I know a spell to make them safe to eat!"
Eilers balked at the notion "You've eaten these poisonous mushrooms?" Lessa's face lit up "Yes! Actually I think they taste better than the standard sort. Sporeveiled Widowmakers are my favorites but you have to wash them or the textures all wrong. Here I'll try and find one-"
"Er, no, we should press on to this Wolfhound!" Eilers said
"But Eilers you said that you were starving?" Lessa objected
"I... did eventually find something... There wasn't enough for the both of us I'm afraid..." Eilers admitted
"Oh. I understand. I'm glad I guess. You probably need it more. I come back with a mostly full belly anyways." Said Lessa
"Come back? ... Oh of course right... Um say about that..." Eilers began "Well it is awfully dangerous in this forest already without attempting to go on a quest with an evil wizard or what have you! Perhaps you can extend this immortality to me as well?"
"Well I mean... I don't know how to do that! It's a closely guarded secret amongst the mystics! Even amongst them it's one of the last things taught! I received this spell only because of desperate circumstances. I expect it to be dispelled once my mother awakens" Lessa said
"Well can you bring me back to this Mystic-" "Starnose" "-Starnose. This mystic Starnose will she cast it upon me?" Eilers pressed the topic but Lessa had to inform her "No, I do not believe so. Eilers my mother and I are close friends with Starnose. She's practically as a grand mother to me! She knows I would never abuse such a gift with so much attention stake. Though I truly do wish someone else had taken up this quest, believe me."
Lessa finished her statement but something felt off about it. Before she could could process this though Eilers continued "So, these Mystic's spells must be dispelled or they proceed?" Lessa loved feeling like an expert in these subjects for a change! "Well yes, the process must be done in reverse! Otherwise it continues until the original caster's death. So I guess you have good reason to keep me around huh?"
Lessa turned to give Eilers a goofy grin to see if she could coax a laugh out of her. Eilers smiled and relaxed some. "I suppose you're right. Hey how bad can it be right?"
Lessa became serious at this question "It's awful out here. It is profoundly awful. Please for both of our sakes stay ready and beside me"
So Lessa looked for signs of a struggle she may have slept through but found none.

PART 51
► Show Spoiler :
To Lessa's surprise and delight the day had passed without incident. With only a few passive woodland beasts occasionally spotted to break the monotony.
Around the mid-day they had spotted a small doe-beast which Lessa had attempted to smite dead with an arcane blast but the shot went wide. After a short pursuit they lost the beast but had discovered a patch of dandelions and ate their fill for their luncheon. Fortune smirks at least.
As they approached near to the river Ailye the forest had seemed less hostile. But had to decided to break for camp early so as to not be pestered by insects so close to the water's edge.
Conversation before this came and went. Lessa and Eilers found it difficult to force conversation especially as the days travel began to weigh on them. Lessa would ask of Eilers' past and Eilers would ask Lessa an question about magic. Their most pleasant conversation occurred in the dandelion patch as they were staining their teeth on the flowers. Then they talked of food and wine
Now they built a fire of green branches and grasses and undergrowth. It made a foul dark smoke but the light and warmth brought them comfort. "Comfortable, Lessa?" Eilers asked after a moment watching the fire take off. "Well but of course! Anything is more comfortable than another stride, although I'm thankful for the progress!" Lessa shifted again "you know this is the best day I've had since I've began. I think this quest is beginning to turn around."
Eilers smiled at Lessa "Yes well it's much safer to travel as a group. A few more folk and we'd need only worry about food." She paused "...so the quest, Lessa, to get this seed and wake your mother to stop Bellinor..." She began
"Yes? You still want to help yes?" Lessa said.
"Surely yes! However I wonder why exactly all of this began. The Grimwood is a little out of the way for everyone frankly, so is it a vendetta he has this Bellinor?" Eilers finished
Lessa seemed nervous, for once hesitant to divulge. "Well... Yes. In short, yes a vendetta against my mother. And he's evil!"
"Well what did he do? What is he going to do after striking your mother and the rest down? It is the why is what I am wondering here!" Eilers said to Lessa, getting irritated.
"Here I'll show you-" Lessa picked up her hands and began to play the air. A glow formed around around her fingers, in her eyes, and in the smoke. "It will help us both if you can visualize what I am saying"
"Oh my~" Eilers cooed "Okay he's a serpent! No he was a serpent but was cursed by your mother after being seduced!"
Lessa was slightly baffled "what? No, no here just listen. I have to concentrate" Lessa knit her brow and continued: "Yes the woman is my mother, Greta. You see at this time of her life as a learned journeywitch my mother was taken in as a ward of a Century Sky Eel! Now i dont need to explain the rarity and import of such a creature i imagine!"
"I imagine you do." Eilers interjected
Lessa rolled her glowing eyes causing the image in the smoke to sway"Ah well... it is a rare creature of great import! So as a ward of the Century Sky Eel my mother-"
"how does an eel take a witch as its ward? How does that work?"
"Listen I can tell you more about that later! -Now Bellinor at this time was the cupbearer for the Mad Konig Revatempus the Mad. Bellinor had begun a courtly romance in the palace of- "
"Revatempus the Mad? From Eltos the City of Stones?" Eilers cut in again
"Yes! Good you know him! At least this will make the story personal to you!" Lessa said pretending she was pleased about this input as the image warped again
"Well I knew of him, hes dead. And Eltos the City of Stones looks nothing like that." Said Eilers as snarkily as she could muster
"... I know he's dead, it comes up in my tale. As for Eltos, I've never visited it"
"Its kind of a shithole."
Lessa continued without acknowledging Eilers: "So since you're unaware the Century Sky Eel exudes fleeting Arcane knowledge from the mucus it is coated with. Bellinor learned of-"
Eilers interrupted once more "ohhhh I thought she was lying with that beast. This is just how you learn magic?"
"BELLINOR... learned of this property from his studies into wizardry in years prior. But also had learned that the Century Sky Eel will give its life to protect it's ward: otherwise can be quite a foe to slay indeed" Lessa waggled her fingers extra for dramatic flair and faced to Eilers
Eilers cast her gaze back to Lessa feeling her eyes on her. "Did you and your mother commit the sin with the Eel?"
"The Eel..." Lessa seethed "The Century Sky Eel, one of the rarest beings to grace this bitch of an earth, sage of arcane knowledge, the guardian of my mother, gave it's potentially endless life to save her from being slain by Bellinor... Which of course was his plan! For it was his aim to Slay The Century Sky Eel, yeah? ...yeah?"
"Watch your tone, Lessa." Eilers said tersely.
"So after narrowly escaping with her life, my mother was forced to flee and ran off into the night to escape! For days she wandered aimlessly, her head hung low as she assumed defeat but then!"
"Wait. Oh Lord!" Eilers began, she stood up from the ground as did Lessa the image fading into the air and the magical glow dissipating from all around.
"Will you just bite your tongue for a moment! The best part! You asked! You asked me!" Lessa said shouting over Eilers as Eilers shouted as well: "Stop stop I understand! I read between the lines: Bellinor Is Your Father!"
Lessa's eyes watered from smoke and frustration with her companion. She grabbed the Brass Tack from the ground and fired an arcane blast into the fire. Small embers rained down from the air.
"My dad is dead Eilers, let us sleep now." Lessa said in exasperation.
"Your dad was the Eel?" Eilers said, genuinely confused.
Lessa raised her wand and pointed it to Eilers and held it for a moment before lowering it back down. Eilers froze unable to get herself to act in that brief moment, or for another moment as Lessa's began to lie down in the ash spattered grass.
"...I'm... I'm sorry Lessa." Eilers knelt slowly next to Lessa and gently sat her hand on her side which Lessa flinched and flailed away. "It's not important. I'm sorry I just was simply excited I thought I had understood..." Several minutes passed by. Eilers lied down next to Lessa. "Would you like to finish your tale? On my life I won't interrupt!"
After another minute Lessa huffed and said "Bellinor ate the Sky Eel, killed the king, took over the kingdom. My mother found the Great Wolf hound and ascended his tower and defeated Bellinor with it's might... Then she pulled out his liver and threw it as far as she could. Heh heh."
Eilers resisted on threat of death asking 'why his liver?'
Lessa sniffled and said "everything goes back to normal, Bellinor is seemingly dead, and my mother earns her Pentacles! ...But she never wears them. She says she's saving them for me."
Eilers came up behind and gently cuddled into Lessa "you'll earn them with this! I know it!" Eilers had no idea what the requirements were for witch's Pentacles but it felt correct to say. Either way Lessa seemed comforted.
"Hey sorry again Lessa... I'll make it up to you in the morning okay? I've been saving something special but I'll give it to you okay? If you forgive me?"
Lessa was a little excited about this mystery gift but tried not to let it show "oh but of course. Honest mistake... I forgive you Eilers, for everything." With that the two slipped into a dreamless sleep.

PART 52
► Show Spoiler : lolicub
Lessa had awoken first this morning and saw Eilers curled up in the grass. The fog was thinner this morning and Lessa gingerly stepped away for a time in attempts to forage. She came across several varieties of mushrooms but decided just to eat them herself assuming that Eilers did not care much for mushrooms generally.
Trekking back she discovered a Badger-Beast's den and decided to create a fired inside of the den to draw the beast out. This succeeded and Lessa skewered the panicked beast with the Brass Tack. She was becoming very fond of this action.
She hauled the beast back to where Eilers still lay and began gathering firewood to cook her kill. Eilers had opened her eyes to Lessa conjuring the flames around the wood and used her sword to skin the badger-beast and portion off chunks of it's still warm flesh. They ate very well and a proper meal of unseasoned unsalted game improved their moods greatly.
"So... Last night you had mentioned a gift?" Lessa asked, rubbing grease and grime onto her smock.
"Hm! Um yes, yes indeed." Eilers stalled for a moment here, diverting the conversation to predators and scent of blood and other worries. After a brief moment they put it out of their heads and Lessa pressed the original topic again. To which Eilers continued "I have... Devised a suit of maille for you Lessa. Similar to mine that you see, using the chitinous plates from that monster I found too small to be suitable for me"
Lessa was ecstatic! Reviving or no, injury and death are something anyone should attempt to avoid! And so a little extra protection was a welcome boon to her! However a question crossed Lessa's mind: "Will it black like yours?"
"Yes, it will! A very rich black isn't it? Who knew such wonderful dye was in such supply" Eilers chuckled to herself.
"Well..." Said Lessa "It's just that I need the brighter color. Otherwise I may draw the attention of the Giant Owl. The menace likes magic folk the best you see. I need to look poisonous to trick it!"
Eilers tossed this information around in her head "Well... We can don your colors back onto you then if you'll remove your smock first. I will fit it to you. I will be needing you to remove it to put the harness onto you anyways"
"Oh yes, the harness of course..." Said Lessa, pretending that she knew how to don a suit of maille.
Lessa slipped out of her mantle and smock and stood there, bashful but not covering. Eilers gave a grin at her and reached into her bag and pulled a length of cord made out of Lessa's old corpse clothes.
Eilers reached the length between Lessa's legs and Lessa's knees instinctively slammed together. Eilers cooed at Lessa and still running the cord around her said "You can relax, I'm not going to hurt you." Lessa's legs opened a little but her body remained tense. And her eyes looked at her with worry.
Lessa continued standing there for Eilers though, hoping this uncomfortability would be all worth it...
